Many objects in collections come from uncertain origins and while in appearance they look ancient there may be some doubt. Sophisticated fakes are very abundant in the art market today and care must be exercised to determine which is authentic.

Usually a visual examination aided by magnifications and a few simple physical tests enable us to determine the authenticity of most objects. Scientific analysis is done for objective verification of the authenticity. Some techiques employed include Carbon-14 Dating, Thermoluminescence and examination by x-ray imaging (shown at right).
