There are a multitude of problems that can occur to ancient works of art. Therefore our first task is to examine and evaluate the condition of the material substance of the object. We then develop a treatment plan that is appropriate to stabilize the condition and correct the physical problems.
The restoration that follows is based on observable evidence of each object so that our work is carried out as faithfully as possible. A number of techniques are employed in the study of damaged surfaces to know exactly what must be replaced and how it must look. The repairs can match the original surfaces seamlessly, however, if the client wishes they may choose a straightforward museum style repair in which missing areas are rebuilt in a neutral colored plaster and all the repairs are apparent. Input from our clients is always welcomed in these matters.
